Everyone likes a little adventure in their lives!

That is what we do at Yak Island Adventures. Back in the 1950s, the Indian River was not deep enough for most boats to navigate.

A dredging project was started and dredge up thousands of years of sand, rock, shells, and fossils. It was all gathered into big piles all along the Indian River. Those piles are now the Indian River Spoil Islands.

The birds have taken over a few of them for nesting but most are now covered with trees and palms.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife have added a few picnic tables and BBQ pits for the public to enjoy.

They all have a long beach areas that come and goes with the tide.

Its a great place to get wet and still be able to walk in 12 inches of clear water, you might even find a fossil or two.
